NIJ Publishes Standard 0101.07 and Standard 0123.00 for Ballistic-Resistant Body Armor

The National Institute of Justice has published two linked standards governing ballistic-resistant body armor and the threats against which it is tested:

  • NIJ Standard 0101.07, Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor
  • NIJ Standard 0123.00, Specification for NIJ Ballistic Protection Levels and Associated Test Threats

The notice also covers information about the NIJ Compliance Testing Program tied to these standards.

Standard 0101.07 supersedes the prior performance standard for ballistic-resistant body armor. Standard 0123.00 separates the protection-level and test-threat specifications into a standalone document, allowing NIJ to update threat definitions independently of the armor performance standard.

Manufacturers, dealers, and procurement officers should review both documents in full to map current product lines and open solicitations against the revised protection levels, test threats, and compliance testing requirements.
